Ryan Reynolds is bringing back “Alf” exclusively on his Fubo Channel. The Deadpool Star, 46, is reviving the 80s classic on his Maximum Effort Channel on the streaming platform Fubo in a series of shorts to promote brands like Mint Mobile - in which the actor is famously associated with, and Ring, the video doorbell system. The shorts are expected to start airing this Saturday. Reynolds shared that these shorts are coming straight from his heart with the “irrational love of ‘Alf’” he had growing up.
The show famously known for the cat eating alien brought joy to many fans from 1986 to 1990 in a variety of different adventures and situations Alf would find himself in. The show aired for nearly 100 episodes - stopping right at 99 episodes - and ended on a cliffhanger. It was the show creators' hopes that it would get tv execs interested in renewing the show for one more season, which ultimately did not happen. Due to popular demand a TV Movie was eventually made six years later just to tie up the loose ends fans were dying to know. Ironically hardcore “Alf” fans reject the tv movie because none of the original Human characters were in it.
Although the cartoon series was released after the original live action, it served as a prequel in an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the quirky alien. In fact Alf was so popular that Marvel comics even jumped on the trend and created a brief comics series around him in 1988. The small comic series ran from 1988 until 1992, so in some strange and bizarre world, both Alf and Deadpool are actually Avengers.
