3. WORD UP
'Word Up' was actually popular slang phrase used in New York instead of saying "you bet". Cameo, a funk band, made this groove by incorporating elements of hiphop and funk to reach a larger audience. The band saw instant success upon the release of the single.
2. TRUE BLUE
This Madonna bop was all about the love she had for her then husband. Madonna found inspiration for the song from 60s Motown girl groups like The Supremes. The song ended up with two official music videos, one directed by James Foley, who was responsible for many of her other music videos. The other music video was from a contest run through MTV called "Make My Video" directed by Angela Garcia.
The song is about a couple that cheats on each other while they are apart because they are only... human. Produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, leader of The Human League, Phil Oakley, reached out to this dynamic duo because of their success with Janet Jackson's 'Control' album.
