It looks like “Game of Thrones” fans’ summer travel plans will include a stop in Westeros.

The epic trailer for the prequel to the famed HBO series, “House of the Dragon,” has just arrived.
It’s an intensely dramatic, dark, and operatic teaser, featuring lots of familiar family names and landmarks that should be a delightful return for fans – considering the GOT finale was hotly disputed amongst them.

Ten seconds into the trailer we see a fabulously eerie shot of a dragon descending on a city, then a quick litany of characters announcing themselves.
The series is once again based on George R.R. Martin's epic fantasy franchise. As Yahoo Entertainment reported, the story is set two hundred years before the tale and times of the original series, and focuses on the ancestors of the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen, who was played by Emilia Clarke.
Daemon Targaryen – played by former “Doctor Who” star Matt Smith – covets King Viserys’ throne, but the King prefers his daughter, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy). That sets up what looks to be the central conflict of the 10-episode series.
There, in the middle of the teaser, is the plot-prophetic quote: “Men would sooner put the realm to the torch than see a woman ascend the iron throne.”
The dragon reappears, spewing fire near the end, and portending the kind of beastly battles fans loved from the original series.
Despite the somewhat contentious ending of “Games of Thrones” in May 2019, the series was a huge hit. HBO soon settled on a second series, “The Long Night,” set 5,000 years before and starring Naomi Watts. Unfortunately. the pilot though was not to HBO’s liking and it was scrapped for “House of the Dragon.”
"House of the Dragon" premieres August 21, 2022 on HBO and HBO Max.
