City to hold meet-and-greet for 3 finalists for Austin's next police chief

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin residents got their first chance Wednesday night to meet the three finalists vying to be the city's next police chief, in the first of two community meetings at Palmer Events Center.

Another session will get underway at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night, with attendees able to submit questions before the meeting begins.

In addition to current APD interim chief Joseph Chacon, the other two finalists are current Dallas Police assistant chief Avery Moore and current Los Angeles Police deputy chief Emada Tingirides.

Due to COVID-19 limitations, only 100 people will be able to attend in-person. Masks and social distancing will be required. The sessions will also be broadcast live on ATXN, the city's cable channel, and streamed online.

Following the two community meetings, the City says it will encourage residents to provide feedback on the finalists online at SpeakUpAustin.org. The deadline for that feedback is Sunday night.

Austin City Manager Spencer Cronk says he hopes to have a permanent police chief in place by the end of next month.
