Report: Mavericks to sign Spencer Dinwiddie

The Dallas Mavericks are bringing back a familiar face to bolster their backcourt behind Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, free agent point guard Spencer Dinwiddie and the Mavericks have agreed to a one-year deal.

Dinwiddie, 31, returns to the Mavericks after being included in the Feb. 2023 deal with the Brooklyn Nets that brought Irving to Dallas. Dinwiddie nearly returned to Dallas after being waived following the trade deadline this past season but ultimately signed with the Los Angeles Lakers instead.

Dinwiddie arrived in Dallas in the trade that sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards in 2022 and would play a key role in helping Dallas reach the Western Conference Finals that year.

Dinwiddie averaged 17.4 points in 76 games played with Dallas. He'll join Jaden Hardy and Dante Exum as the team's ball-handler options off the bench next season.
