Fred VanVleet "intends to sign" a two-year, $50 million contract to remain with the Houston Rockets, according to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania.
The Rockets will reportedly decline VanVleet's $44.9 million team option for next season, but will bring back the 31-year-old through the 2026-27 season. The second year of the deal includes a player option.
VanVleet's return at a cheaper price will give the Rockets some flexibility and allows the guard to re-enter free agency when cap space across the league will be more plentiful.
Per Charania, both sides "believe in a partnership for years to come beyond the two years."
VanVleet averaged 14.1 points in the 2024-25 regular season, but averaged 18.7 points in the Rockets' first-round series loss to the Golden State Warriors.
