Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman has been advocating for Mike McCarthy to be brought back as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys next season. And he reiterated as much and then some when he joined the Dallas Cowboys pregame show on 105.3 The Fan.
"Short of Bill Belichick, I don't know who you're going to bring in that's got a better resume. There are no guarantees of what might happen when you make a coaching change. I just feel that for a team that I really do not think is that far away ... I like the way this team is playing right now, even without their franchise quarterback," Aikman said before Monday's game between Dallas and Cincinnati when asked by Cowboys broadcaster Brad Sham why McCarthy should be the team's head coach in 2025.
And not only does Aikman think that McCarthy should be back but he believes he will be the head coach of the Cowboys next season.
"I sense that it's a team that really believes in Mike McCarthy. I feel the locker room wants him back. I think he's a really good football coach. I believe Jerry Jones thinks he's a really good football coach, too. And it's the last thing Jerry Jones wants to do. For those reasons ... As we stand and talk right now, I expect Mike McCarthy to be back in 2025."
In addition to Aikman, Dak Prescott, Jerry Jones and Cowboys' star pass rusher Micah Parsons have all publicly backed McCarthy in recent weeks.
