Sugar is a contemporary, unique take on one of the most popular and significant genres in literary, motion picture, and television history. Emmy Award nominee Colin Farrell returns for a new case as private detective John Sugar, to track the troubled older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer as his search for his beloved missing sister continues. As the investigation expands into a citywide conspiracy with sinister intentions, Sugar must reckon with himself to answer the question, "how far will he go to do what’s right?"
Colin sat down with Audacy and Romeo International to dive into the dynamic choices ahead for John Sugar and how now sees the world ahead.
How did you want people to see him dance between these colliding worlds?
"That's a question, man. I don't know. I never really approach anything from how I would like the audience to see it. It's more of just an inside-out kind of job, and you just read the script and you think about what you are doing. You think about the character and its backstory and the history and all that stuff and just run with it."
"I do feel that he kind of flip flops between these worlds of violence and tenderness and doubt and certainty, and he is kind of, you know, he is from a very distant place, so he is kind of bobbing on a sea of unbelonging. He is even less certain of where he belongs this season because all of his fellow people who have gone back home to their planet, and as far as he's concerned, he's the only one of his kind left behind on planet Earth. So I think that's why he is kind of reaching out more to people or he's in a state of vulnerability where he's open to romance, perhaps, which he shouldn't be. But yeah, you just run with it, man. Read those scripts and run with it."
