(SportsRadio 610) -- Former Jets linebacker Neville Hewitt is signing with the Texans on a one-year deal.

Hewitt spent the past three seasons with the Jets after his first three seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He became a full-time starter in 2019, starting 12 games and for the first time in his career started all 16 games last season for New York.

Before 2019, Hewitt had never played more than five games in a season.

Hewitt had a career-high 134 tackles with two sacks and six tackles for loss. He recorded two interceptions in 2019.

Hewitt adds depth and provides more competition at the linebacker position. The Texans return Zach Cunningham in the middle and Whitney Mercilus and Jacob Martin on the edge. With the switch to defensive coordinator Lovie Smith's 4-3 scheme, they also signed Jordan Jenkins, Christian Kirksey, Kamu Grugier-Hill, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Joe Thomas and drafted former TCU linebacker Garret Wallow in the fifth round of the draft last week.
