Ovechkin OK after injury scare during scrimmage

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin fell during a scrimmage and needed to be helped off the ice by teammates, but looks to have avoided a serious injury.

According to several media members, the Caps forward fell awkwardly, screamed in pain, and needed several teammates to help him leave the ice while not putting any pressure on his left leg.

However, Ovechkin later returned to the ice to continue playing in the informal scrimmage.

While coming off the ice after the scrimmage, Ovi told reporters he was OK. 

Oh, and, by the way, he was sporting a gash on the bridge of his nose. "Last night I feel off my bike," Ovechkin said.

Just checked with Ovechkin after he came off the ice. He’s says his leg is “okay”...which is better than his nose, chin and eyebrow, which he injured in a bicycle accident last night. “Shit happens,” he cracked. #Caps pic.twitter.com/yi4tiStDDt

Initial reports indicated a more serious injury, but evidently, he is fine.

The worst possible thing just happened. Ovi went down very awkwardly during #Caps scrimmage. He screamed in pain. It took a couple of teammates to help him off the ice.Wasn’t putting any pressure on left leg as he left the ice. The silence in here was palpable.

Alex Ovechkin just went down during the #Caps’ informal skate and appeared to be in a lot discomfort. He was not putting any weight on his left leg as teammates helped him to the dressing room.
