Why is Ovechkin using a blowtorch on the bench?

One thing is for certain: The Washington Capitals need to have a Fire Safety Week.

Somebody get Fire Marshall Bill in here: I know what you're thinking, we're all perfectly safe on the bench. Right? WRONG! Just about everything you see in here is a potential hazard. Let me show you something! Let's just say you're minding your business between shifts and you notice your captain, Alex Ovechkin, has a blowtorch out.

Yes, Ovechkin had a blowtorch on the bench while the Capitals were playing the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center Wednesday night.

Is this safe? Aren't there equipment managers who can do this? Why is there an open flame on the bench? There are so many moving parts.

Why is he doing this? Well, evidently there was a sticker on his visor he wanted removed.

Update: Ovechkin tells The Athletic that he was using the blowtorch to remove a sticker from his visor. Says it was driving him crazy and he couldn’t get it off. -- #Caps

So a blowtorch was the way to go. As one does. 

Whatever comes of the Capitals fire safety lesson one thing is for sure, John Carlson is actually still on fire and that is a good thing.

With the two goals Wednesday, Carlson is running away with the Norris Trophy with 42 points (11 goals, 31 assists). And his teammates are on the campaign trail: "Johnny for Norris," T.J. Oshie said after the game. “There’s nothing else to truly talk about.”

The Caps beat the Kings 3-1 on the night to extend their league-leading pace with 47 points through 30 games (21-4-5). 

Think about this, the #Caps have played 16 road games and lost just twice in regulation. They also have more points (47) at the 30-game mark than they've ever accumulated before.
