Adrian Peterson needs a handful of Pro Bowl-level seasons to become the best running back in NFL history. That puts special meaning on every carry he gets, as he fights for every yard possible.

That was never more clear than on Sunday, when he was busting a run to the outside and got wrapped up around the legs by Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly.

Kuechly is one of the best defenders in the league, and doesn't often miss when wrapping up a ball carrier. But most running backs aren't Peterson, who dragged his one leg free before getting his cleats on the other foot stuck in Kuechly's facemask.

So Peterson shed the shoe and kept running, picking up nearly another 20 yards wearing only one cleat:

Midway through the fourth quarter, Peterson led the Redskins in rushing with 73 yards, averaging more than five yards per carry. As anticipated with his injured shoulder, Peterson did not have any receptions.
