The Washington Redskins quarterback competition is over.
Head coach
Jay Gruden named veteran
Case Keenum the starting quarterback for the Redskins' Week 1 game vs. the Philadelphia Eagles. Gruden announced the decision Sunday just
days after he said he was in "no rush" to name a starter.
"Case has come in here and picked up the offense extremely well, had great confidence and command over the team," Gruden told the media. "I think we have great confidence that Case can lead us to a win against Philadelphia."
"I'm excited, I really am," Keenum said Sunday. "So, I'm very honored to wear the bugandy to be the Redskins quarterback."

August 25, 2019 "I'm excited to continue to earn the right to be the leader for this team, to be the quarterback for this team," he added.
Washington added Keenum, 31, in March in a
trade with the Denver Broncos. He previously played with the Texans, Rams, and Vikings and Keenum's teams have a 26-28 record with him as a starter.
Dwayne Haskins will be the backup for now. He will play on Thursday, but they haven’t decided how much. They’ll discuss as a staff over the next few days.
