Swearinger: Redskins will ‘never win big’ with Gruden

D.J. Swearinger is no longer with the Washington Redskins, but he still likes talking about them
The former Redskins safety had more critical words for his former head coach Jay Gruden.
"Y'all will never win big bro," Swearinger wrote Wednesday. "I've seen a championship swagger from a coach (Bruce Arians) he an OG. That coach y'all have will never win big cause it (ain't in) him to chew somebody out in practice cause they lacking."

"When (you) say I'm a cancer for wanting to practice harder or wanting to get coached harder just to win then winning (probably) not for you or you don't understand that hard work pays off," Swearinger wrote. "Mediocre work get you beat!"

Swearinger, who announced his release on 106.7 The Fan, was a frequent critic of the Redskins coaching during his time in Washington: He accused Gruden of overturning a player's vote for team captain after his criticism of defensive coordinator Greg Manusky's play calling saw him released. Gruden said releasing Swearinger was a group decision. Swearing admitted he didn't think his comments would cost him his job.

Is Swearinger a reliable source?

"Do you put much stock in to this?" J.P. Flaim of The Sports Junkies said Thursday. "I actually do because everything he says is what we hear from, you know, Chris Russell, who calls it 'Club Jay.' And does anybody expect Jay Gruden to lead this team to a championship?"

The answer came quickly from Jason Bishop: "No."

"And that's (Gruden's) reputation, that's the way he is. Players like him as a person, they like playing for him. He's not hard on them," Bishop said. "Swearinger obviously thinks differently, but I think nothing is gonna change with Jay Gruden."

Of course, John Auville points out the constant in all of this story is Swearinger.

"I think that Swearinger likes him some D.J. Swearinger and likes to hear himself chirp. And likes to be the center of attention," Auville said. "If people aren't talking about D.J., he's gonna put stuff out there so people continue to talk about him." 

While, Auville may be correct, Swearinger wasn't the only player or former player to criticize the Redskins coaching or organization.

"The winners are born but champions are made," Swearinger wrote. "A strong leader of men make others around him better. Spread Peace Love And Elevation In everything you do lil brudda."
