Deja vu all over again for Redskins

Stop if you've heard this before: The Redskins, already eliminated from the playoffs, are looking to avoid a 7-9 record in a divisional game to end the season.

Sound familiar?

A once promising season was lost to bad luck and a multitude of injuries, which has head coach Jay Gruden on the hot seat and the quarterback situation is still up in the air.

Feeling a bit of deja vu, Redskins fans? 

“We all have injuries. Most of our rosters are all decimated,” quarterback Kirk Cousins told The Sports Junkies in December 2017. “So we’re all kind of going through some of the same challenges."

Oh.

"I know 8-8 isn’t 13-3, but it also isn’t 7-9 and I think that’s where our focus is right now to get to another non-losing season," Cousins said a year ago.

Ugh. 

“I was pleased with the resiliency, the character that it takes to come back when you aren’t in the playoff hunt, but to still put a good product on the field and play well, " Cousins said, "which is what we’ve talked about here on the show for the last few weeks and the kind of culture we want to have here with the Redskins.”

Is time a flat circle?

“There’s still a week to go and we’ve got to finish right,” Cousins said last year on 106.7 The Fan. “But we said, if we can get to 8-8, if we can win the last three, I think it causes a different feeling walking away from this season and we know that. We’re going to go into work tomorrow with the expectation that we still have a lot to play for, and we can kind of change the tenor of this season if we can walk away at 8-8, so that’s where our focus will be.”

As they say at Redskins Park, "Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose." 

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
