"Washington is a football town." It's one of the most repeated truths in D.C. sports over the last generation, and one that has finally lost steam.

The Washington Capitals are the Stanley Cup Champions. The most recent D.C. football championship was won by the AFL's Washington Valor.


The D.C. sports fan has options on where to spend his or her entertainment dollars.

Even Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman knows that.

Shortly before Capitals training camp reconvened, Norman joined Alex Ovechkin at the Brazil-El Salvador match at FedExField. After a night with the champs, his respect is palpable:

"Just being able to bring back a championship of any kind this city," he told the media this week. "It's much beloved and much needed.

"They are the kings, really. So, now, they've got to pass the baton off, hopefully, to us, so we can bring back some magic as well."
