The Washington Nationals will call up top prospect Carter Kieboom.

According to The Washington Post's Jesse Dougherty, the 21-year-old infielder will join the team ahead of Friday's game against the San Diego Padres.

Kieboom, who began the season with the Nationals' Triple-A affiliate in Fresno, is ranked as the No. 16 prospect by Baseball Prospectus, No. 25 by MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo, and No. 41 according to Baseball America. 

In 18 games with at Fresno in 2019, Kieboom was batting .379/.506/.636 with 3 home runs and 18 RBIs while playing 12 games at shortstop and six at second base. 

MASN's Mark Zuckerman noted Nationals GM Mike Rizzo has only promoted top prospects when they will get regular playing time. This would indicate with shortstop Trea Turner still out due to a broken finger, Kieboom will get time at shortstop ahead of Wilmer Difo. Though he can play second, he is still new to the position and likely will play shortstop at the big league level.
Washington selected Kieboom with their top pick in the 2016 draft (28th overall) and he was named the "Best Power Hitter" in the Nats' system by Baseball America. He is the younger brother of Spencer Kieboom, the 28-year-old catcher in the Nationals' system.
