For the second consecutive year, the Washington Redskins' season has been defined by injuries.

Last year, it was a revolving door on the offensive line, as the Redskins trotted out more than two dozen O-line combinations to protect Kirk Cousins.

This season, the Redskins have been plagued up and down the roster and currently have 18 players currently on injured reserve. Others, like Colt McCoy, are likely to end up there in the next few weeks.

According to Sunday's NFL on CBS broadcast, that leads all NFL teams in players on injured reserve. The Redskins also rank alarmingly high in games missed due to injury this season:

It's misleading to paint injuries with a broad brush, as each injury is its own story. Even severe njuries, like the ones sustained by Alex Smith and Derrius Guice, are just freaky parts of football.

But it is frustrating to have another team stolen by injuries. The Redskins have five offensive guards on injured reserve, the most affected position. They have another 17 players that appeared on this week's injury report.

It will be interesting to see how the team invests in the medical and training teams this offseason, as well as preventative medicine.
