Redskins fans were already upset with how Washington's season turned out on Monday.
And many became even more upset after D.J. Swearinger told 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen and Pete Medhurst he was released by head coach Jay Gruden.
One notable Redskin fan was former NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The optics on all this is crazy. Claimed Reuben. Kept Mason. Released DJ..... on Christmas Eve??!?!? ----‍♂️----‍♂️ https://t.co/PBxxj6HDeH

Earnhardt made reference to Washington's signing of troubled linebacker Reuben Foster, who has been accused of multiple incidents of domestic violence

He also retweeted his own tweet from January 2018, writing, "Nothing dull about being a Redskins fan."

However, the decision to release Swearinger after his critical comments of defensive coordinator Greg Manusky makes some sense.

#Redskins fans hate this move.....clearly.Simply because D.J. has talent. They pay no attention to chemistry, cohesion and the divide his comments were causing in the building & locker room.Jay Gruden knew he had to get rid of a divisive force. Was just a matter of time.
