The Washington Redskins announced the hiring of Brian Angelichio as their new tight ends coach Friday evening.
Angelichio spent the last three seasons coaching tight ends with the Green Bay Packers and is entering his eighth season as an NFL assistant coach.
Wes Phillips, who was Washington's tight ends coach since 2014, left the Redskins after his contract expired at the end of the season, per NBC Sport Washington's J.P. Finlay.
He is expected to join Sean McVay's coaching staff with the Los Angeles Rams, according to 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen. Phillips is the son of longtime NFL coach and current Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.
Before working for the Packers, Angelichio coached tight ends for the Browns (2014-15), Buccaneers (2012-13), and Steelers (2007-10) with a one-year stop at Rutgers in 2011.
Phillips is the first member of Jay Gruden's offensive coaching staff to depart this offseason and fourth coach overall following special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica, linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti, and defensive backs coach Torrian Gray.
