Skins sign Flowers to fill Swearinger's spot

The Washington Redskins announced the signing of linebacker Marquis Flowers Wednesday to fill vacant roster spot. 

Flowers, who was released by Detroit in October, will take D.J. Swearinger's roster spot after the safety was released Monday by head coach Jay Gruden.

Flowers, a sixth round pick in 2014, has spent time with the Bengals, Patriots, and Lions. He's appeared in 53 career games and made 45 tackles with 3.5 sacks.

The move comes one day after Swearinger was claimed by the Arizona Cardinals off waivers. 

The Redskins also announced the addition of two wide receivers, Carlos Henderson and ArDarius Stewart, to the practice squad.

Henderson a third round pick in the 2017 NFL draft by Denver has yet to appear in a game. Stewart made 15 appearances in 2017 with the Jets and tallied six catches for 82 yards.

Earlier in December, Washington lost practice squad receiver Simmie Cobbs to New Orleans after Cobbs turned down a spot on the Redskins active roster.
