Bill Callahan 'ripped into' 1-9 Redskins before Lions game

Redskins interim coach sought to establish a firmer tone with his team the night before their game Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

According to JP Finlay, Callahan "ripped into" the 1-9 Redskins during their team meeting Saturday evening, demanding a better effort than they gave him in their 34-17 loss to the New York Jets last week.

Reported this on air just now - sources tell me Bill Callahan “ripped into” the Redskins last night at the team meeting. Wants a better and more immediate effort today than the team displayed against the Jets.

Per 106.7 The Fan's Craig Hoffman, Callahan's theatrics – which seemed to be targeted at younger players – did not go over well with the team.

I've heard this as well and I've also heard it did not go over well.He specifically went after some younger players and that was not particularly well received per a source. https://t.co/vCn21SrDCa

A bit of pre-game drama surrounding Redskins corner Josh Norman's status ultimately proved to be overblown. Norman, who's been listed with a hamstring injury for the past two weeks, was initially ruled inactive for Sunday's game, a decision the Redskins would later reverse before game time.

Nationally, a storyline emerged about Norman being a 'healthy scratch,' when in reality, that was never the case.

Washington CB Josh Norman will be a healthy scratch today, as @ErinHawksworth also said. Inactive.

Update: Washington changed its mind today and decided to make CB Aaron Colvin inactive instead of Josh Norman, who now will be active against the Lions, per source.

I’m told Josh Norman has weekly roster bonuses he would lose if he’s inactive. So he’s active. Don’t expect him to play.

Despite dressing, Norman in all likelihood will not play at all on Sunday. More to the point, even though Norman's not at 100 percent, he's still a better backup option than cornerback Aaron Colvin should one of the starters go down.

Josh Norman is active. As I said this morning, this is like the game earlier this year when he could play but it’s more emergency.I still anticipate Moreland starting and Norman not playing unless someone else gets hurt.

Norman's been listed solely with a hamstring injury for the last two weeks, but some of the other stuff still bothers him.Of course now the season is toast and he knows he's on the way out. The Skins have youth they want to play. Josh sitting is best for everyone.

An interesting observation from NBC Sports Washington's Mitch Tischler, who notes rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins was really cutting it close with his arrival to FedEx Field Sunday. Be careful about reading too much into this one, as we don't know enough about the specifics of his travel (e.g. if the team bus was late or not).

It’s 10:48am - In 12 seasons covering the NFL, this is as close to game time as I’ve seen the starting quarterback arrive to the stadium ... #Redskins pic.twitter.com/oPd8XLERXx
