Ovi's already in mid-season form

He and the Capitals won the franchise's first Stanley Cup, Ovechkin earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, and the celebrations seemed like they'd never come to an end. Additionally, Ovechkin and his wife Nastya welcomed their first child, Sergei, in August. 

But despite the insanity of the past few months, Ovechkin showed once again why he's one of the best to ever grace NHL ice Friday night during a preseason game against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Caps' no. 8 scoring twice.

The Caps could not pull out a win, Carolina triumphing in overtime 5-4, but preseason results don't carry too much weight. The point is to prepare for the meaningful games to come, and on this evidence, Ovechkin's plenty ready to begin the campaign to go "back to back".
