Casserly: Case Keenum 'will play himself out' of Redskins QB job

As of now, Case Keenum looks like the favorite to start at quarterback for Redskins Week 1.

But don't expect Keenum to make it all the way to Week 17, says NFL analyst Charley Casserly.

"Keenum will eventually, I think, play himself out of the job because of turnovers," Casserly told The Sports Junkies Monday. "But my feeling is Keenum would start the opener."
The question then becomes who would take over for Keenum mid-season: veteran Colt McCoy or rookie Dwayne Haskins, who by all accounts had his best day of training camp Sunday.

Haskins just completed his best period of training camp. Had four touchdown passes in a red zone period, including a dime of a fade ball to Trey Quinn over an outstretched Norman. This has been his best day so far. Good day for all three QB’s.

"I think they fully expect Haskins to play this year, but I'd think you'd have to see where he is," said Casserly. "His inconsistency on accuracy is troubling at this point in time."

"You'd have to feel more comfortable about that, and you'd have to figure out what part of the offense he could run and could you water it down to where is at that point in time."

And as Casserly also noted, Jay Gruden may not want to throw a rookie in Haskins out there with his job potentially on the line.
"It has been predetermined that this is Gruden's make-or-break year by everyone in the press," Casserly told the Junkies. "And I've seen how that happens. People just make it up, they don't know that. The only guy who knows that is Dan Snyder."

"But you can't have a make-or-break year when you're gonna play Dwayne Haskins midway through the season. So that's the thing that's gonna be unfair in this situation. Whether Gruden deserves to be back, that's another story."
