Well, after much speculation, much doubt, and reports of "no plan," we finally have an answer.
Colt McCoy will be the Washington Redskins starting quarterback Sunday when the Skins play the New England Patriots, head coach Jay Gruden said Friday.
The backup for the Week 5 matchup will depend on Case Keenum's health, which would indicate rookie Dwayne Haskins, who saw his first action of the season last week vs. the Giants, would be inactive.
When asked if he had decided on a starting quarterback by 106.7 The Fan's Craig Hoffman, Gruden said, "Yeah, I decided a long time ago, we're gonna start with Colt. And go from there."
What does go from there mean? "I'm gonna wait 'til tomorrow to see how Case is doing and make a decision tomorrow on that one," Gruden said.
Gruden said practice last week was a good week for McCoy, calling it a "coming out party for him."
The Redskins head coach said Friday the starting job was McCoy's to lose during training camp and it was a lack of fitness and lack of confidence in his leg which held McCoy out for the season's first four weeks. McCoy hasn't faced a live defense since Dec. 2018 in Philadelphia when he broke his leg vs. the Eagles.
The 12 car is back on the track. Jay Gruden just told reporters that Colt McCoy will get the start for the #Redskins this weekend.
