Dave Martinez delivered two unforgettable quotes that will give fans chills for years as the Nationals celebrated their World Series championship in Houston Wednesday night.
First, during the on-field celebration, Martinez was asked in front of a national television audience, "This team never dies, does it?"
Martinez, who managed the Nats back from a 19-31 start to the season, all the way to a World Series victory over the Astros, reaffirmed his faith in his players.
"Never. Never," he answered. "Hey, they're a bunch of relentless, resilient bunch of guys that love to play the game. They play the game every day. Today we were down, but they never thought they were out."
"Just a testament to these guys," he said. "I mean, they fought all year long, and guess what? We stayed in the fight. We WON THE FIGHT!"

Martinez was away from the team for several days in September after experiencing chest pains during a game, and underwent a "cardiac catheterization" – a procedure to treat cardiovascular conditions – before returning.
"Before we get started with anything, this right here, and you guys cured my heart," Martinez offered a somber moment before the carbonate storm. "I'm good. So tonight... tonight, I will celebrate with my boys, because WE are the WORLD CHAMPIONS!"
