For the Washington Redskins, the bad news continues.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting running back Derrius Guice had an MRI Monday morning on his right knee after making his NFL debut Sunday in Philadelphia. This is not the knee which suffered a torn ACL during the 2018 preseason.
Redskins head coach Jay Gruden told the media Monday Guice had the MRI to look at “knee soreness” and added he might miss a little time. But when asked if Guice could possibly play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, the Skins head coach said, “For sure.”
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said it is a meniscus injury which Guice hopes is a sprain and will require a few weeks recovery.
Washington RB Derrius Guice dealing with meniscus injury that he hopes is a sprain and a few weeks recovery but is awaiting full clarity from tests, per source.
— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) September 9, 2019Guice had 10 carries for Washington and gained 18 yards in the Skins' 32-27 loss to the Eagles. Guice was limited to just 24 snaps Sunday, representing just 36 percent of the Redskins offensive plays. Running back Chris Thompson played 43 snaps and Adrian Peterson was inactive.
He will likely miss some time, Rapoport notes. NBC Sports Washington's JP Finlay reported Guice will receive "stem cell therapy on his knee" in the hopes of avoiding surgery.
Sources tell me that Derrius Guice might get stem cell therapy on his knee. Could help avoid surgery. Remember that Guice wasn’t cleared for full contact until mid August.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) September 9, 2019Confirmed that Derrius Guice had an MRI on his non-surgically repaired knee. Source hopeful he won't be out long, but results TBD.Guice went into the medical tent during the game. Asked why postgame, Guice said nature called.Adrian Peterson, sup.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 9, 2019Keep an eye on Jay over there. He's gotta be losing his freaking mind.Stood on the table for Guice. He only got 18 and gets hurt. Also lit AP on fire in the process. Now has to go back to the old man with a fire extinguisher & resuscitate him.You. Can't. Make. This. Up.
— Eric Bickel (@EBJunkies) September 9, 2019During training camp, Guice told 106.7 The Fan's Craig Hoffman he still thought about the night he tore his ACL in New England.
"I still think about that night every day, bro," he said about the game last preseason. "It's gonna always be on my mind, bro, but it just never held me back."
Prior to playing against the Falcons this preseason, Guice said he wouldn't know he is fully back until he gets on the field.
"It's not really a point of do I feel back, it's just when I'm back, when I get out there, when I start playing, that's when I'll really know. When I'm actually going against somebody else, that's when I'll actually know," Guice said. "Anybody can just come (back) from an injury and run (against) air, without somebody diving at you, that's when I'll really know when I'm actually playing against somebody."
Guice didn’t chat long with reporters after yesterday’s game. His first comment: “I’m just happy to leave the game healthy. That’s the main thing.”Dude can’t catch a break.
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) September 9, 2019Sources: #Redskins RB Derrius Guice had an MRI this morning on the other, non-ACL knee and he’s likely to miss some time. The hope is he does not need surgery, but the team is doing a full evaluation. He gained 18 yards on 10 carries, looking like he wasn’t himself.
