Dwayne Haskins calls 'riff' reports 'fake news'

Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins rebuffed reports of a rift between the team's front office and the coaching staff Friday.

Haskins has responded to the message of possible disagreement between the two sides with two words "fake news." Haskins later deleted the tweet.

College football analyst Joel Klatt was quoted by the Rich Eisen Show Twitter account which alleged disagreement between Jay Gruden's coaching staff and the front office about whether to play Haskins over veteran Case Keenum.

After the Redskins' 31-15 loss to the Chicago Bears, Gruden said it was not time to change quarterbacks.

“I think the most important thing is that we have some continuity,” Gruden said after the loss. “I’ve made this point before, we’re not going to be perfect but we need to be better. I think that we can get better. Otherwise, if I didn’t think we had a chance to get better, then I would make a change. I feel like Case has the tools to become a very efficient quarterback in this offense to get us some victories here moving forward.”
In late March, reports emerged the Redskins were very focused on drafting Haskins in the first round. At the same time, a source told The Sports Junkies' Eric Bickel Gruden was "not being consulted" on certain offseason moves in free agency and he was "super frustrated" and said team president Bruce Allen was "calling all the shots." 
Prior to the NFL Draft in late April, a source told 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has "taken over the first round of the draft." The organization denied that report. However, one day earlier, ESPN's Dianna Russini said the decision about who to pick "is going to come down to, and be made by, president Bruce Allen and owner Dan Snyder."

"They're the ones making the call on where they want to go with this (15th overall) pick. And the name I keep hearing is Dwayne Haskins," Russini said."We know that Dan Snyder's son went to high school near Dwayne Haskins. He grew up here, Snyder's had his eye on him when he played at Ohio State, and he is a quarterback that impressed Bruce Allen at his pro day."

Paulsen followed up his pre-draft report by saying on 106.7 The Fan, "(Snyder) loves Dwayne Haskins and, I think, Bruce Allen, from what I was told, loves Dwayne Haskins... The football guys don't as much." 
Meanwhile, Paulsen said Gruden likes Daniel Jones and Drew Lock. "I don't think (Gruden) wants to take a quarterback at all, for the record," Paulsen added. 

Russini added Allen and Snyder were "fixated" on Haskins and a case was being pled for Jones. ESPN'S Todd McShay said he heard members of the Redskins coaching staff was opposed to trading up for Haskins and any move would likely be "owner driven."

After the draft, Russini told The Junkies, "The list I was sent of needs from this team leading into the draft from people in the organization on the football side of it was very long ... and quarterback wasn't even on the list."

"So while we can sit hear all day and give credit to the scout team and give credit to these coaches, it really didn't matter in the end," Russini said on May 1. "Because Dan Snyder was going to pick who he wanted when it came to the top pick."

The Redskins selected Haskins at No. 15 after their Week 4 opponents the New York Giants picked Jones at No. 6.
