Well, that was wild.

Why? Because baseball is a weird game with weird rules and a rulebook that is as tough to read as Henrik Ibsen in the original Norwegian. No matter what language you speak it is pretty simple, for Nats fans and manager Davey Martinez, this World Series umpiring crew has become "An Enemy of the People."

So here's what happened: Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner hit a little dribbler in front of the mound, Houston Astros relief pitcher Brad Peacock fielded, turned, and threw to first base, but the ball tailed into the path of Turner. Yuli Gurriel's glove moved closer toward foul territory and Turner and the ball arrived at first base at about the same time. The ball got away, Turner got to second and Yan Gomes went from first to third.

Until home plate umpire Sam Holbrook held up his arm and declared Turner out due to interference and sent Gomes back to first. (By the way, this crew of umpires has not been having a great time this series.)

Martinez yelled, the umpires reviewed (or didn't review the call, which it turns out is not reviewable), Turner yelled for them to just walk over and consult MLB's Joe Torre, who was at the game, Turner was still called out. Then Anthony Rendon hit a two-run home run and the Nationals had a 5-2 advantage.

During the next half inning? Martinez had more to say and got tossed, the first manager to be ejected in a World Series game in over 20 years.
