The turf at FedEx Field: The rain made it extra sloppy.

The turf became a swamp. A bog. A total mess.

"It was a slop fest," Redskins right tackle Morgan Moses told The Sports Junkies Monday.

And the Washington Redskins failed to score a point and fell to 1-6 on the season after a 9-0 loss to the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers.

Niners cornerback Richard Sherman was again unimpressed with the playing surface at FedEx Field.

"Yeah, that was as bad as I have seen," Sherman said after the game. "You know, I've played in this stadium once before in the playoffs and it was pretty bad. That's the year (Robert Griffin III) went down with a knee injury and the field was pretty awful. It was mostly sand, like playing in the sandpit. Today, it was rain and everything was going bad."

And the play on the field was just a sad reminder of the difference between the past and the abysmal present.

The numbers are awful: Just 12 passing attempts by Case Keenum, which totaled only 50 total yards after losing 27 yards on three sacks. Bill Callahan's commitment to the run game netted 104 yards on 26 carries and that plan was dinged by an Adrian Peterson fumble.

It was a mess from start to finish.
