The Redskins could soon have a brilliant free-agent option at safety.
Giants safety Landon Collins reportedly cleaned out his locker, and said his goodbyes to teammates, on Wednesday, according to Josina Anderson.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) February 20, 2019The 25-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year. The only question is whether the Giants will franchise tag him.
Collins, a second-round pick in 2015, went out of his way coming out of Alabama to speak of Sean Taylor as his hero. Which makes him a shoo-in to gain Redskins fans' favor. Washington selected defensive lineman Preston Smith a few picks later in that draft, and Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff the round before.
And in case there was any confusion about Collins cleaning out his locker...

— LANDON COLLINS (@TheHumble_21) February 20, 2019The Redskins have a gaping hole at safety after releasing D.J. Swearinger late in the season, and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix at strong safety, where Collins plays.
Collins is a three-time Pro Bowler with eight career interceptions and one defensive touchdown, but only played in 12 games in 2018 after having surgery to repair a partially torn rotator cuff, an injury he suffered in Week 13.
Free agency officially begins on March 13.
