There are a few things that are above Morgan Moses' paygrade: Whether the Washington Redskins should make a quarterback change and why there are more fans of the visiting team at Redskins home games.
When asked about the Skins possibly making a change from Case Keenum to rookie Dwayne Haskins after three games, the right tackle told 106.7 The Fan, "That's obviously above my paygrade."
"It's a good thing we have quarterbacks in our room that we can go to, but Case is a great quarterback. I'm definitely not going to say after one game he needs to go or anything like that," Moses told The Sports Junkies.
After JP Flaim interjected to ask about Haskins specifically, Moses said the rookie is "a helluva talent," but he doesn't get many reps with the first-team offense during the week.
"Behind the scenes, when he's in meetings and stuff, they're tooling him to be ready (for) whatever happens, when he needs to go in," he said. "I think a lot of him. I think he's a helluva talent, I think he can throw the ball. And, obviously, it is different from preseason and him being in the real thing. That's one of those things when it happens you just gotta see.
"His knowledge of the game is expanding every day and I think he's gonna be a great player. And when he does get the opportunity or something happens, I think the talent that he has will definitely show."
When asked about his frustration with the fans and the overwhelming number of fans supporting visiting teams at FedEx Field, Moses said it isn't a matter for him to say.
"It's something we've been dealing with, I've noticed it since we've been here. You get in those games and it's a lot of opposing team jerseys in the stadium," he said. "But at the end of the day, I can't worry about that. That's above my paygrade, that's stuff the organization has to figure out."
Perhaps the most notable absentee at Redskins games (both home and away) this year has been Trent Williams. Moses said he hasn't spoken to the Skins' disgruntled left tackle recently and added he has no idea when or if Williams will return to the team this year.
"Right now, he's dealing with some things that he has to deal with and, obviously, when and if he does come back we'll love to have him. But right now we gotta focus on the guys that we have in our locker room," Moses said.
Despite the tough start from the Washington offense, there are no hard feelings between the two linemen.
"It's a business, man. It's a business. I'll never point my finger at a man that's doing something business-wise for (himself), to benefit him," Moses said. "Obviously, he's been a leader on this team and we love him and we want him here, but at the end of the day, I'll never point my finger at somebody that's trying to better themself."
The Redskins run game improved from Week 2, but still produced just 66 yards on 19 carries from the running backs.
"At the end of the day, when you get down like that you gotta get away from the run game," Moses said. "When you look at the film there's opportunities in the run game. I think for the most part we ran the ball pretty well. And it's just one of those things when you get down 28-0 it's hard to keep running the ball."
Moses said he isn't going to focus on Williams but the things he can correct to help the team get their first win on the season against the New York Giants.
"We all have to look ourselves in the mirror and say, 'What can I do better?' Moses said. "We're 0-3 it sucks, it stinks. But, shoot, there's a lot of football left to be played."
"We don't have no time to put our head down. In five days we're gonna be playing the Giants. So you gotta get the sour taste out of your mouth." he said. "We gotta stick together, all that matters is the guys in the locker room, we know who we have. It doesn't really matter anybody outside the locker room. We gotta come together. We gotta overcome what's going on, we gotta overcome that adversity, we gotta look adversity in our face and say, 'Hey, look, either we are gonna bow down to it or stand up and keep moving forward.'"
"It is called adversity. Either you are gonna run the opposite way, or you are gonna run towards it, run through it."
