The Nationals had a bad case of the Mondays this week.
Catcher
Yan Gomes departed in the third inning with a left forearm contusion after he was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat of the game. An inning later, outfielder
Andrew Stevenson was lifted after experiencing back spasms on a swinging strikeout.
The injuries continue to pile up for the already short-handed Nats, who already have
Trea Turner,
Anthony Rendon,
Ryan Zimmerman and
Juan Soto on the IL.

May 7, 2019 Things aren't going well in the field, either. Washington lost another quality Max Scherzer start — the Nats are now just 1-7 in Scherzer starts this season — and hurt their own cause throughout the night by committing four errors. Shortstop Carter Kieboom booted another ground ball Monday night, his fourth error in 11 games since he was called up April 26.
"We got some young players, obviously. But then again, these are our prospects, a lot of them," manager
Davey Martinez said after the game. "And they've done this before, and they've done this at a high level in Triple-A."
"When you come up here, there's two constants for me, and that's play good defense and good base-running. You want to be a good teammate? Run the bases well, get to the next base for your teammates. And we got to continue to do that, we got to continue to talk about it, we got to continue to press them on it."
