The Washington Nationals officially agreed to terms with 32-year-old outfielder Gerardo Parra on Thursday.
The left-handed hitter joins the Nationals after beginning the 2019 season in San Francisco, where he hit .198 with one home run, three doubles, six RBI and eight walks to 18 strikeouts in 97 plate appearances. He was designated for assignment on May 3.
Parra appeared in 142 games for the Rockies in 2018, hitting .284 with 17 doubles, six home runs and 53 RBI. His .326 average with runners in scoring position ranked ninth in the National League.
An 11-year MLB veteran, Parra is a career .277 hitter with 253 career doubles, 41 triples, 80 homers and 480 RBI for the Diamondbacks, Brewers, Orioles, Rockies and Giants.
Parra brings experience at all three outfield positions. He's even logged 23 games at first base, something manager Dave Martinez made note of in Los Angeles, where Parra has joined the Nationals as they begin a four-game series against the Dodgers Thursday night. The Nats could sure use a hand at first, with both Ryan Zimmerman and Matt Adams on the shelf.
