The Nationals weren't much in the buyers' or sellers' market at Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline, but they did move reliever Brandon Kintzler to the Cubs.

Washington receives 23-year-old right-handed reliever Jhon Romero in the deal. A right-handed reliever, Romero is 1-2 with nine saves and a 3.27 ERA in 32 appearances for Single-A Myrtle Beach. He's also recorded 57 strikeouts, 17 walks and allowed one home run while holding opposing hitters to a .237 batting average.

Kintzler, 33, has appeared in 45 games while maintaining a 3.59 ERA this season.

This deal surprises me, as if the Nats had wanted to clear money, they could have cleared more with Madson or Herrera. Feels worth noting Kintzler something of a squeaky wheel. https://t.co/Qvngaqfx9T

Kintzler, previously with Minnesota, arrived in Washington via trade before the 2017 deadline.

Brandon Kintzler's stint with the Nationals lasted about 364 days and 23 hours.

The Nationals also announced that Anthony Rendon, who just had his first child, has been activated from the family medical leave list.

Harper “I’m glad to still be in this clubhouse.” Said Rizzo assured him he wasn’t going anywhere.
