Entercom, the unrivaled leader in sports radio and owner of 106.7 The Fan, announced it has entered into an agreement with Urban One to acquire The Team 980 (WTEM-AM), the radio home of the Washington Football Team.
The agreement involves an exchange of stations in four markets, including Washington, D.C., St. Louis, Philadelphia, and Charlotte.
“As the home for everything Washington Football Team, WTEM has established itself as a go-to audio destination for the team’s biggest fans, and we’re fortunate to welcome the station to our portfolio,” said Ivy Savoy-Smith, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Entercom Washington D.C.
“Alongside 106.7 The Fan (WJFK-FM), WTEM will help enhance our position as unrivaled leaders in sports radio and allow us to drive dynamic sports talk throughout the DMV area,” she said.
“We know a lot of the guys over there, a lot of talented guys over there,” said John-Paul Flaim, announcing the news on The Sports Junkies Friday morning. “I’ve played golf with Czabe in the past. There are a lot of great guys over there at 980.”
“I think it’s awesome,” said Eric Bickel. “Pretty much anything you want to listen to sports-wise, it’s going to be on either this station or the other one, or some combo, so it’s awesome.”
“And I hear they’re going to be working just down the hall from us,” said Flaim.
“In my living room?” joked John Auville.
“If we’re ever back in that building,” said Flaim.
