The Washington Redskins have not gone to the playoffs for five years. The organization hasn't won a playoff game for 15 years. They haven't been to the conference title game since they last won a Super Bowl in 1991. But that could all change. And it could all change soon.
And, according to one NFL analyst, the key to Washington's return to the football mountain top is pass rusher Chase Young.
“If No. 2 overall pick Chase Young is as good as advertised," former NFL player and scout Bucky Brooks wrote, "the Washington Redskins are on their way toward becoming a Super Bowl contender."
Now: Brooks then asks readers to think before they belly laugh at his take.

— NFL Network (@nflnetwork) June 29, 2020“When I was with the Carolina Panthers, we had Julius Peppers,” Brooks said. “Julius Peppers anchored a defensive line that led us to the Super Bowl. Then, when you think about Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio getting together, Jack Del Rio not only had Peppers during his first stint (as defensive coordinator) at Carolina, but he also had Von Miller in Denver. Both of those teams eventually went to the Super Bowl, so a dominant pass rusher can make a difference.”
The comparison to Peppers and Miller is a familiar one.
"He's not quite as big as Julius was," Rivera told Redskins.com. "He's built like him, he's a mini version of him. He's got a little bit more of that initial explosion. Julius was very long and his explosion was good, but because of his length, it seemed even better than it really, truly was. I mean Julius was phenomenal, and this is a young man who could be that type of player."
"Von Miller comes to my mind when I watch Chase and I watch him work out and I watch the tape he's putting out. So I'm pretty excited about seeing him," Rivera added.
The Skins' top pick agrees. If Young would compare his game to any player: "I feel like it's Julius Peppers."
"That was a guy that I always just grew up watching," Young said after being drafted. "My uncles, they always used to talk about Julius. My dad didn't have an NFL team, but he liked Julius Peppers, so I just grew up always talking about and watching Julius Peppers."
And Young isn't the only talent on the Redskins defensive line as 2020 became the fifth-straight year the Redskins selected a defensive lineman in the first round of the NFL Draft. (The other four: Ryan Kerrigan, Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, and Montez Sweat.)
“The Washington Redskins have five former first-round picks on that D-line rotation,” Brooks told NFL Network. “You know who else had that? The San Francisco 49ers. We saw them in the Super Bowl last year. I’m not saying this year, but in a couple of years we could see the Washington Redskins have a parade.”
Well, Del Rio thinks Young has all the tools to get D.C. another championship parade.
"The best toolbox I've ever seen coming out of the draft," Del Rio told Redskins.com about Young. "I haven't seen a guy come out with that many tools. I've seen talented players come out, but not with a complete toolbox like he has."
And one guy who took note of Brooks' analysis is the other part (perhaps the far more important part) of what it will take the Redskins to get back to the playoffs: second-year quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
