Patriots sign WR Maurice Harris
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Redskins declined to tender wide receiver Maurice Harris, plunging the 26-year-old into the great unknown of NFL free agency this week.

Tendering Harris would have cost them $2 million, in an offseason in which they must be extremely judicious in how they spend their money.

Mo Harris has drawn interest from 4 teams. Skins have not made an offer (wasn't tendered because would've been 2 mil); doesn't mean they won't at some point. Not sure where that one goes.

That may turn out to be the best thing that's ever happened to him. After a visit in New England Thursday, Harris is signing with the Super Bowl champs.

#Patriots are signing former #Redskins WR Maurice Harris, source says. He was there on a visit with Bruce Ellington, who also will sign with New England, as @RapSheet said earlier.

At 6-foot-3 and with great hands, Harris has always possessed the ability to go up and get those 50/50 balls, he's just seldom had the opportunity on a crowded receiving corps.

With 28 catches for 304 yards in 2018 – his best production to date – perhaps the Patriots see a star in the making in Harris.

Pity the Redskins, who saw it too, but just couldn't afford to see him reach his full potential.

Enjoy it, Harris. Catching passes from Tom Brady is quite an upgrade from Case Keenum and/or Colt McCoy.
