I'm not quite sure who Brett Maher is or where the Cowboys dug him up from, but I sure am glad they did.
You see, Dak Prescott was driving the Cowboys down the field in the final minute of a 20-17 game at FedEx Field Sunday night, and it sure looked like this game was destined for overtime, which surely would have brought another heartbreaking home loss and a week's worth of frustration into our lives.
Until Brett Maher entered the picture, changing the course of history forever.
That 52-yard field goal attempt was supposed to be five yards shorter, from 47 yards out, but Dallas long snapper Louis-Philippe Ladouceur was called for a snap infraction (a snap infraction!). By my math, 47 is more makeable than 52. Especially off painted dirt.

— NFL Officiating (@NFLOfficiating) October 21, 2018Official told Jason Garrett on fateful snap infraction penalty that L.P. Ladouceur moved the ball in a way that caused the Washington defensive lineman to jump offsides.
— David Moore (@DavidMooreDMN) October 21, 2018Alex Smith had spent the entire fourth quarter welcoming Dallas back into the game, as evidenced by him running out of bounds on third down of Washington's final drive, a drive that was intended to kill as much clock as possible, and not... the opposite, as Smith accomplished.
There are some things in life that can't be explained away with simple logic or reason, things that might affirm one's faith in a higher power. Divine intervention.
Thank you, Brett Maher. Whoever you are. Wherever you came from. However you got here. You were in the right place, at the right time, when we needed you the most. And you gave us reason to believe.
That sure seems like fate to me.

— Jake Russell (@_JakeRussell) October 21, 2018The Redskins are not particularly good. Jay Gruden was awful in this one. They paid a QB 71$ million who will be here for years that they don't trust to throw a pass. I don't give a damn right now because they just beat dallas. Hall and Oates.
