On a day when the Redskins signing a 33-year old running back dominated the headlines, the man expected to be the rookie phenom in Washington's backfield, Derrius Guice, underwent ACL surgery on Monday.
Original plan was Friday. Got shifted to today. Under Dr. Andrews's knife Mr. Guice goes. https://t.co/vIxxQcXiwz
Guice tore his ACL in the Redskins' first preseason game against the Patriots, the team announcing the next day he would miss the entire season. The expectation is that he will recover by training camp next year.
In addition to Guice, Samaje Perine and Byron Marshall have both gone down with injuries, albeit ones not as serious as a torn ACL. However, the Redskins reacted to the shrinking depth in the running back room by signing Adrian Peterson Monday.
Washington now has a big-name running back again, but certainly not the one they expected when training camp began. Nonetheless, Guice voiced his approval of the Peterson signing after his surgery.
