The Washington Redskins have made a change.
Head coach Jay Gruden, five years after taking over the job, was fired Monday by owner Daniel Snyder and team president Bruce Allen shortly after 5 a.m.
The news was not surprising, the writing had long been on the wall with the team limping to an 0-5 start. Something needed to be changed. And the head coach was the first one out the door at Redskins Park.

— runCMB (@realRUNCMB) October 7, 2019Jay Gruden was fired this morning, which was tipped by Snyder and Allen's dramatic departure from the stadium last night. Such a clownish move. I'm thinking Jay is disappointed but relieved. It was going to be a death march and he's now free to move on.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) October 7, 2019Did Jay deserve to be fired? In the end, there's enough blame to coat Redskins Park three times over. But, Gruden did generally a mediocre job. Didn't adjust in games. Didn't practice the team with any urgency. Ultimately, it was time to move on.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) October 7, 2019That this 0-5 team is looking worse by the week won't change with an interim coach. It's a train wreck that will end with a couple wins, a new coach, a new plan and a high draft pick. And as long as Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder are running things, nothing will change.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) October 7, 2019If you think the Redskins in any way will be better with Bruce Allen remaining, you haven't been paying attention.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) October 7, 2019Who's the Redskins next coach? No idea, but say no to a college coach. Surely it will be an OC hungry and desperate enough to take this job. Nobody with options will come if Allen remains.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) October 7, 2019Redskins naming Bill Callahan means the position coach whose unit has unperformed for two seasons is now head coach. Please. Should have made Ryan the temp coach and let him unleash the Ryan family fury.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) October 7, 2019Bruce Allen will take questions today. The Redskins are 59-92-1 since he took over. He has now fired 2 HCs and overseen several organizational debacles. He's appointed his guy, Bill Callahan, interim HC.If Allen survives season it will be an all-timer even by Skins standards.

— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) October 7, 2019Day 14 In 10 years of Bruce Allen stewardship, what do they have? A stadium overrun by opposing fans, welcomed for their $ & no new deal for a new stadium in sight. We know the team's record. He has failed at every aspect of his job. #FireBruceAllen
— danny rouhier (@funnydanny) October 7, 20193,563 days ago Bruce Allen fired Jim Zorn and said: “The status quo is not acceptable. It was necessary to not waste a moment of time to begin building a winner.” The status quo is not acceptable. The Redskins should not waste a moment of time to begin building a winner.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) October 7, 2019The Redskins are 59-92-1 since Bruce Allen was hired as GM. Washington has won 38% of its games under Allen. The only time the 'Skins have won 10 games under Allen was before he was elevated to team president.
