The Redskins have interviewed Ken Zampese for their quarterbacks coach vacancy, according to Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Source tells me Ken Zampese has interviewed for @Redskins QBs coaching vacancy

The curious thing about this report is: the Redskins, at least publicly, never had a QBs coach vacancy. Kevin O'Connell has held the position for the past two seasons, adding the role of passing game coordinator in 2018.

In fact, O'Connell was the only coach the Redskins sent down to Mobile, Ala. for the Senior Bowl last week, implying O'Connell is still in the Redskins' plans long-term. 106.7 The Fan Redskins insider Chris Russell reported Monday a source had told him over the weekend, "Dan Snyder really knows how special (O'Connell) can be."

"I still have some strong suspicions, based on people that I talk to, that he might become the play-caller at some point next year," Russell also told The Sports Junkies Monday. "And it might even be from the start."

Business is picking up for the #Redskins. This would mean Kevin O'Connell is either getting promoted or leaving. https://t.co/UocaeH9O2H

Also, possible that K.O.C. is just ramping up his role as we suggested and can't spend as much time with the QB's? https://t.co/e9YyqMHhAR

Zampese most recently served as the QBs coach with the Cleveland Browns, part of the staff that coached Baker Mayfield during his breakout rookie season. He also held the same role with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2003-2015 before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2016, and worked under Jay Gruden when he was Bengals OC from 2011-13.
