The Washington Redskins have placed tight end Jordan Reed on Injured Reserve, the team announced Saturday.
Reed, who sustained a concussion during the Redskins' Week 3 preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, has not played during the 2019 NFL Season. Placing him on IR now likely means he will not return this season and puts his future playing career in further doubt.
The Redskins tight end had been free of concussions since 2016 but had
suffered at least six during his seven-year professional career with Washington.
Before the Redskins' Monday Night Football matchup with the Chicago Bears,
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported there are people within the Washington organization and people around the NFL who are concerned Reed will not be able to play football again.
Falcons safety Keanu Neal was fined $28,075 for the
unnecessary roughness penalty which resulted in Reed's latest concussion. Neal was not ejected from the game for the hit.
Washington announced they had signed safety Jeremy Reaves from the practice squad to take Reed's spot on the active roster.
Most recent thing I’d heard on Jordan Reed is he was at least a couple of weeks away from trying to practice but that was no sure thing.Putting him on IR takes pressure off. Let’s him heal. I’m so bummed for him. He was so excited about this season and he was ready to dominate.

October 12, 2019 I haven’t had anyone directly tell me this, so good on Adam for getting that. The longer this has played out, the more likely this has become. Every time he ramps up activity, he gets severe headaches and people around have him been telling him it’s time. https://t.co/tplGGxNYht
