Mason Foster has been informed of his release by the Redskins, a source tells 106.7 The Fan contributor Erin Hawksworth.
I think it’s a little surprising considering they already lost Reuben Foster to injury. Mason will be missed. Was always a great guy to talk to in the locker room. https://t.co/5g76AZY8Gw

Craig Hoffman of 106.7 The Fan has confirmed Foster has been released.
Source confirms @ErinHawksworth that Mason Foster has been released by the #Redskins.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 23, 2019The 30-year-old linebacker first joined the Redskins off the street in 2015, making an instant impact and finding a home in Washington for the next four seasons.
How cutting Mason Foster helps the Redskins
Foster recorded 131 combined tackles, one sack and forced two fumbles last season. He has 318 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks and four forced fumbles over his four seasons with the Redskins.
Foster was a third-round pick with Tampa Bay in 2011.
As Craig Hoffman noted last week, the dynamic at middle linebacker changed dramatically for the Redskins on just the third snap of OTAs, when Reuben Foster went down with a torn ACL.
"The plan was for Foster to play the 'Mo' linebacker spot and pair with either Shaun Dion Hamilton or Mason Foster at the signal-calling 'Mike' linebacker spot. Immediately the Skins had to pivot, with Hamilton sliding to the Mo spot and Foster back to the Mike spot for the rest of the spring.
Remaining at the position are (experience): Jon Bostic (7), Josh Harvey-Clemons (3), Shaun Dion Hamilton (2), Cole Holcomb (R).
