The Washington Redskins have had a lot of injuries the past two seasons.
And a lot of that has been down to just plain bad luck. But some have continually pointed the finger at the team's medical and training staff.
On Wednesday, head coach Jay Gruden revealed quarterback Colt McCoy is still not ready to play after sustaining a broken leg in Dec. 2018.
“First and foremost we’ve got to get that leg healthy,” Gruden said. "I don’t think it’s very far away. It’s the same thing. I don’t think he’s had full strength yet. He’s tried to battle through it. It just hasn’t been there for him.”
"I think there's a huge lack of trust in the leg," Hoffman told
The Junks. He doesn't trust running around on it, he doesn't trust driving off of it, and really lacing a throw or floating one deep.
"And you can't be thinking about that stuff when you play quarterback. You've got too much to think about: where's the safety, is my back-side covered, where's my checkdown, is my number one receiver open, two, three, four, on through the progression."
Quarterbacking has to be second nature, Hoffman said, and for McCoy that takes him out of the running for the starting job for the time being.
McCoy's long road back from injury and the outside criticism of the team's training staff are connected because it has been eight months since he broke his leg and is still not at full speed. After Gruden's announcement, NFL analyst (and guest on
CDVTW) Warren Sharp made this observation quoting an Apr. 2019 article by JP Finlay.
Worse than sad.Colt McCoy broke his fibula last yr.The Redskins admitted it didn’t heal right because they hurried him back, hoping he could start in the playoffs(?).He’s had 3 surgeries since. Now?He still can’t play.Gruden today: “right now he’s not able to do much.” pic.twitter.com/yc0GCCj9nw

August 14, 2019 In response, Hoffman had this to say about the Redskins medical staff.
The injuries happening has been the louder criticism the last few years, but the more damning evidence is how piss poor the return to play has been.Minor injuries have taken a long time. Major injuries have hit complications with regularity. That shouldn’t be acceptable.

August 15, 2019 2) Jordan, Alex and Derrius among others had complications while being other places. In isolation it doesn’t seem fair to blame the #Redskins for any of those. However in totality, it’s more than fair to ask the questions and it’s just one of many, many questions.

August 15, 2019 Fair or unfair, the medical and training staff have been in the spotlight among Redskins fans and if there is another injury delay the attention will only increase.
