The Redskins waived defensive back Joshua Holsey in a series of roster moves on Monday.

Holsey, 24, was once a promising prospect as a seventh-round selection (235th overall) by Washington in 2017, but barely saw the field last season after suffering a freak toe injury prior to training camp.

Placed on the non-football injury (NFI) list to start the 2018 season, Holsey was activated on Nov. 12 and waived the following day before being added to the practice squad.

In all, Holsey played in just one game in 2018, recording two total tackles and suffering a partially torn ACL in Washington's Week 15 win over Jacksonville. Holsey played in 12 games during his rookie season.

"Holsey was supposed to be a factor for Washington last year as their nickel corner, but injured his toe in the off-season and spent most of the year on the Non-Football Injury list," says 106.7 The Fan's Craig Hoffman.

"While Holsey wasn't officially released until Monday, his fate was essentially sealed when the Redskins spent a 7th round pick on Jimmy Moreland. The JMU product immediately vaulted in front of Holsey in the Redskins plans and when it came time to sign some college free agents and roster spots were needed, Holsey was released."

The Redskins signed defensive end Jonathan Bonner, guard Jerald Foster, defensive back Deion Harris, defensive lineman Austin Maloata and running back Craig Reynolds. They also waived running back Russell Hansbrough and tackle Roubbens Joseph.
