The Redskins are trying to arrange a last-minute meeting with Gregg Williams before he officially signs on as the Jets' defensive coordinator, JP Finlay of NBCS reports.

Williams, 60, served as Washington's d-coordinator for four seasons under Joe Gibbs (2004-07). He was let go by the Browns at the end of the 2018 season, in which he led them to a 5-3 record as interim head coach.

Adam Gase, newly hired to coach the Jets, has yet to finalize his staff, which reportedly includes Williams as d-coordinator. Until Williams officially signs, the Redskins will remain interested, Finlay reports. The Redskins hope to meet with him as soon as Tuesday, he adds.

The Redskins also had conversations with Steve Wilks before he signed on as Browns d-coordinator, Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports.

The #Redskins had conversations with Steve Wilks before he took the #Browns’ defensive coordinator job, sources say. Doesn’t sound like they were deep discussions but another indication Washington has been nosing around DC candidates.

All of this chatter about Washington's search for a new defensive coordinator leaves one man in a particularly awkward position. That's Greg Manusky, the Redskins' current defensive coordinator.

I can’t imagine being in Greg Manusky’s position and seeing/hearing rumors about possible replacements for a job you still have. Different.

Williams was once thought to be the natural successor to Gibbs 2.0 coming off the 2007 season. Dan Snyder instead hired Jim Zorn.

Gase said he may not hire a QB coach, based on the belief that, "The less voices, the better." Wants to streamline the communication. He wouldn't comment on Gregg Williams as DC. That is not a done deal. #Jets
