Redskins VP of communications leaving after nine years
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Longtime Washington Redskins Vice President of Communications Tony Wyllie is leaving the organization after nine years.

Wyllie, 51, has taken a position with the Special Olympics, which he begins on Oct. 7. He will remain with the Redskins in the meantime.

More turnover at Redskins Park. I'm hearing Tony Wylie Senior VP of Communications is leaving the Redskins to take a job with Special Olympics. Interesting.

Quite the nugget from EB here. I'm told Tony will remain with the team for another couple weeks. The organization has known for a little while. He's been there for 10 years. https://t.co/UMtTHy7mVe

Wyllie joined the Redskins in May 2010, leaving the Houston Texans organization – where he served in the same capacity – to replace Dan Snyder's former top lieutenant, Karl Swanson.

Wyllie fulfilled a wide array of duties for the organization. Per his Redskins.com biography, he "serves as an advisor to the principal owner on all issues related to public perception of the franchise. He shapes and molds the team image through all public contacts and publicity generation, serves as liaison between team and local and national media, oversees coordination of all interviews and serves as team spokesman."
