With the NFL season entering Week 3, don't take any chances and risk losing your third matchup. Make the smart decision and go with your gut.
Who to start, and who to sit this week in fantasy football:
Start 'Em
QB: Cam Newton, New England Patriots
Opponent: vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Cam Newton has been nothing short of spectacular two games into the 2020 NFL season. To think that anyone second-guessed Bill Belichick for signing the former MVP to a minimal contract to replace Tom Brady is unbelievable. After going toe-to-toe with Russell Wilson on Sunday Night Football in Seattle, Newton has proven any doubters he had wrong that were under the impression that Newton's days in the NFL were numbered.
RB: Leonard Fournette, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Opponent: at Denver Broncos
The running back depth chart has been updated in Tampa. Leonard Fournette is the bell-cow until further notice after making a mockery of the Panthers in Week 2. The former LSU star and Jacksonville cast-off has flourished in his new city, giving Tom Brady a more-than-reliable option to go to in the backfield. On just 12 carries in Week 2, Fournette racked up 103 yards on the ground as well as two scores. The Broncos won't know what to do.
WR: Odell Beckham Jr., Cleveland Browns
Opponent: vs. Washington Football Team
Odell Beckham Jr. dissected the Bengals on Thursday Night Football a week ago and has a terrific matchup ahead of him this Sunday when the Browns host the Washington Football Team. The Washington secondary has struggled to keep up through two games, and with Kendall Fuller still sidelined, Beckham should have an opportunity to feast on a young, unproven group.
Against the Cardinals in Week 2, Washington was unable to slow down DeAndre Hopkins, the Cardinals No. 1 option, as the star receiver hauled in eight of his nine targets for 68 yards and a touchdown. In Week 1 against the Eagles, despite sacking Carson Wentz on eight different occasions, the defense was unable to lock down his No. 1 option, Dallas Goedert, who hauled in eight of his nine targets for 101 yards and a score. Beckham torched the Bengals on just four catches for 74 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 on six targets. If Baker Mayfield starts going in his direction more often due to weak coverage, this one could get ugly fast.
TE: Jonnu Smith, Tennessee Titans
Opponent: at Minnesota Vikings
With A.J. Brown expected to be limited or unable to go in Week 3, Ryan Tannehill will surely lock in his breakout tight end Jonnu Smith to help the Titans take down the dreadful Vikings. Smith has already hauled in 8 receptions for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns through the first two games, and now faces a defense that gave up 111 yards to Colts tight end Mo Alie-Cox just a week ago. Smith is going to feast.
Sit 'Em
QB: Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Opponent: vs. Green Bay Packers
The Saints were a popular Super Bowl pick for a lot of people heading into the 2020 NFL season. After seeing Drew Brees' performance after two primetime matchups, most will want to re-cast their ballots. The future Hall-of-Famer has regressed at the age of 41. Brees has completed just 44 of 68 passes this season (64.7%) and has struggled to throw the ball deep. It's looking like we may see Jameis Winston take the reins from Brees a lot sooner than expected if his play doesn't improve. Aaron Rodgers has no issue with the deep ball, and that should terrify Sean Payton heading into the Saints' matchup in Week 3.
RB: Devonta Freeman, New York Giants
Opponent: vs. San Francisco 49ers
The Giants signed Devonta Freeman to a one-year deal in the wake of Saquon Barkley's season-ending ACL tear in Week 2. With just three days to prepare for one of the best defenses in the NFC, its not worth banking on Freeman in your starting lineup. Expect a committee approach with Freeman, Dion Lewis, and Wayne Gallman all playing a factor in the Giants run game.
WR: Will Fuller V, Houston Texans
Opponent: at Pittsburgh Steelers
With DeAndre Hopkins off to greener pastures, Will Fuller V was expected to take on more of a role for the Texans in his fifth season. In Week 2, he was nowhere to be found. Fuller, who has struggled with injuries thus far throughout his career, didn't make an appearance against the Ravens until after halftime, and despite the Texans being down to the reigning AFC North champions, Fuller didn't haul in a single reception because he wasn't even targeted. Matched up against one of, if not, the best defense in the NFL in Week 3, he should be on your bench.
TE: Hayden Hurst, Atlanta Falcons
Opponent: vs. Chicago Bears
After holding Evan Engram to just 65 yards in Week 2, expect the Monsters of the Midway to clamp down on Hayden Hurst when they travel to Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Matt Ryan has been spreading the wealth to all of his pass-catchers through the first two weeks of the season, but with a stout defensive front expected to give him trouble, Hurst may struggle to put up points.
