Score one for our own Brian Mitchell – he’s a Hall of Famer in Andy Reid’s eyes!
Reid, whose bust will likely be in Canton as soon as eligible, is headed to his second straight Super Bowl and fourth in six years with the Chiefs, but he made some time to call in to BMitch & Finlay and chat with his former player, who spent three years with him in Philly.
Of course Andy talked about the Chiefs’ win Sunday, and what it means to win two road games for the first time in the Mahomes era to get back to the Super Bowl to try to defend their title – especially beating two former assistants in Sean McDermott and John Harbaugh to do it – and joked with the guys that, no, unlike with Alex Smith and Donovan McNabb before that, he won’t be trading Patrick Mahomes to DC to be the new QB1 here.
“He can come visit, but that’s it,” Reid laughed.
Here’s the fun part, though: JP Finlay told Andy that BMitch was always on the ‘don’t count out Andy and Pat’ train when it came to talk that the Ravens were the team that could finally knock off the Chiefs, and that’s when Reid paid Brian the ultimate compliment.
“Nobody did it better than that guy right there sitting next to you, man,” Reid told JP. “He could play quarterback, defensive back, running back, wide receiver…you name it, he could do it. He was the greatest returner, and needs to be in the Hall of Fame. I felt this way about Sterling Sharpe, too - there are only a few guys that you coach that you think could do everything, and Brian was one of them.”
